This summer, teenage residents at Jordan Downs, one of L.A.’s largest public housing communities, learned foundational trade skills including welding, carpentry, plumbing and electrical, and framing a mini-house, as part of a two-week, 40-hour pilot through a partnership with BRIDGE Housing. 

A true community partnership with BRIDGE Housing, The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA), parents, and other community partners made this pilot program a huge success where all 17 students who enrolled, completed the program, resulting in 100% retention!

BRIDGE Housing is a nonprofit housing developer participating in the $1 billion redevelopment effort of Jordan Downs, a public housing development in Watts. First built in the 1940s, Jordan Downs is now going through a physical transformation that includes a doubling of the number of residential units, the addition of retail and community spaces, and new parks and open space for residents.
