Skilled Trades EdCorps Launched in Partnership with Harbor Freight Tools for Schools

Exciting News! On January 15th, Real World Scholars launched a new cohort of EdCorps, all based in skilled trades classrooms. In collaboration with Harbor Freight Tools for Schools, this new initiative brings the EdCorps experience into the skilled trades space, highlighting the work these teachers are doing. Nearly 20 classrooms focusing on various trades – from construction and welding to engineering and industrial tech – are kicking off 2018 with new EdCorps in their classes.

This cohort of educators is based in four cities: Pittsburgh, Chattanooga, Kansas City, and San Diego. A few businesses are already up and running, making some cool products.

Chattanooga-based Next Generation Sustainable Living went live this week, and they’ve already sold a few of these solar-powered chicken coops. In Pittsburgh, Simple Rick’s Woodshop is rolling out maple and cherry wood cutting boards.

Of course, this work wouldn’t be possible without the help and support of Harbor Freight Tools for Schools. Harbor Freight Tools for Schools is a program of the Smidt Foundation and is dedicated to the advancement of skilled trades education in America.

We know these educators and their students are doing awesome work, and we can’t wait to see the learning that come from their classrooms this spring. Please join us in welcoming them to the EdCorps community!
