Unique Program Components

  • The summer program is a component of PCC’s larger initiative, Skills to Rebuild, which is anchored in the vision to build and implement a Regional Skilled Trades Training Center. 

  • In response to the Eaton Fire in 2025, the program served 80 students from 11 high schools, seven school districts, in four different skilled trades pathways in its pilot year. 

  • In 2026, PCC expanded its pathways, offering beginning and advanced courses to support both new and returning students.
  • The new Construction Readiness pathway offered students foundational construction skills and OSHA, First Aid, and emergency response certifications.

  • PCC’s Freeman Center for Career and Completion helped to strengthen the career readiness curriculum, providing students with weekly workshops in topics such as resume writing and financial literacy. 

  • In partnership with SoCal Trades Tour, PCC hosted a Student Showcase and Career Fair connecting more than 200 students with 30+ local skilled trades employers to explore career opportunities and pathways.

PCC Summer Construction Career Program for High School Students 

 
“Summer may be the only opportunity that some students may have to take the class. Basically it’s logistics due to possible conflicts during the school year. Any method to introduce students into automotive is desirable; auto classes during the school year, dual enrollment classes with Cerritos College, and, of course, the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools summer program.” Read more.
